My Film 3 Documentary

Evaluation- We chose to say the information on camera rather than recording our voices and adding pictures, i thought this would be a more creative way of filming the documentary. We shot the documentary almost continuously only stopping when changing to a different subject we shot it this way to keep it real as mistakes always happen and trying to make the documentary totally perfect avoiding stuttering and other things wasn't worth it because of the time we had to do it. If i could change anything i wouldn't change the structure of how we did it or any of that but if i could do it again i'd fine tune it all to make sure it was all done to look more professional as we sort of aloud mistakes to happen because we didn't have time to correct them.

Skills and Qualifications - Education and Training: The educational requirements for being a film editor varies because getting a job relies on experience and industry connections. Typically a film editor will earn a Bachelor of Art with a major in film and television, film studies or communications.
Also because film editors need to know how to use a camera and equipment, they may also major in cinematography.  A film editor may also go to independent film schools, photographic institutions and technical school as well as attending University.

Methods of recruitment - As well as the methods of recruitment said in the video the internet is also a good place to find jobs as a video editor. The internet offers many websites that help people find jobs making it easier for video editors to find employment.

Transferable skills - Knowledge and Skills: A good film editor is committed to following the directors vision rather than changing material to make a personal statement. Also a film editor is able to work well with the footage he/she is given and able to refine  and improve your own work and knowledge.
Along with all that, film editor is the skills to work well with directors, cinematographers, sound editors, special effects editors and music producers, this is a must.

Film Roles

Film Roles

This essay is talking about the many roles, which are needed for the film making industry.

Director
A director is someone who directs and leads the film crew, the visual storyteller. A director is involved in all three stages of making a film, pre-production, production and post-production.

Pre-production

Script analysis
Story boarding
Scheduling
Location scouting
Casting & talent

Production

Set design
Crew hiring
Shot selection
Actor performance

Post-production

Picture edit
Sound edit
Music/Score- Partial.

Cinematographer
The director can collaborate with a cinematographer some directors choose to do their own cinematography. Cinematography is the creation of motion picture images. It can involve the use of film or digital imagery but usually with a movie camera.
A cinematographer is the one photographing with a motion picture camera; the cinematographer is the one who is in charge of the camera and lighting crews. They are responsible for achieving artistic and technical decisions related to the imagine.
Highly experienced cinematographers make up to £500,000
Starting cinematographers make on average £25,000 - £30,000
A DP that’s just started may earn £250 a day, experienced DP's make up to £9000 a week

Producer
A film producer initiates, coordinates and supervises also controls matters like raising funding, hiring personnel and arranging distributors. A producer is involved is the whole process of making a film from development to the finished thing. Producers make £40,000 if they are beginners, experienced producers make from 300,000 to 600,000

Executive producer
An executive producer is the person who develops the idea for a film. This can include purchasing/optioning a book, a short story or screenplay overseeing the adaptation. The producer can in some cases be involved in hiring the director, writer/s, and lead actor/s. They determine how long the film can be shot for and are involved in hiring/firing decisions.
Average pay for a executive producer is £54,000, this depends on the film budget most executive producers earn percentages that allow them to make six figure salaries from a film.

Production designer
The productions designer is responsible for the look of the film. From early on in the development of a film the production designer collaborates with the director of photography to establish the visual feel and specific aesthetic for the film. The production designer guides the other crew such as costume designer, the key hair and make-up stylists, the special effects director and the location manager to make sure they all have the same view of what the film should look like.

Prop master
During production the prop master maps out where all the props will go, making sure the props are positioned in the right place throughout the film. The job is a calibration with the director, production designer, cameraman and set decorator and many others to express their stylistic and aesthetic requirements. The prop masters maintain their own budget.

Special effects:
The person in charge of the special effects team would be the special effects supervisor. This person would instruct the crew on how to design moving set elements and props that would explode, burn, smash, collapse safely. To make this work they would need to work close with the special effects technician also they are responsible for the weather conditions in a film. A disadvantage for this job is that the greatness of the effects depended on how much budget the film had so if it was say a B movie it would have to use the basic effects. The cost of a visual supervisor can vary from as low as $3-400 a day or as high as 10k per week. Some go for $8,500 for five days, $11,050 for 6,

The Visual Effects Producer
Works with the Visual Effects Supervisor to break down the script into storyboards, and advises the Director as to how they should approach the scenes. Together they determine which sequences are to be shot as live action elements, which would work well in miniature or if they should be computer generated.

Visual effects supervisor is responsible for achieving the creative aims of the director through the use of visual effects While it is a creative role, most supervisors have a technical background and are capable of making  decisions about the most  effective technique to employ . Often a supervisor will work with a visual effects producer and CG (computer graphics) Supervisor. The disadvantages of this job is that some directors / producers may not be easy to get along with which if that did happen could possibly damage the film.

production sound mixer
is  responsible for recording all sound recording on set during the filmmaking using professional audio equipment, for later inclusion in the finished film, or for reference to be used by the sound designer and sound effects editors,. This requires choice and placing  of microphones, choice of recording media, and mixing of audio signals.
The sound mixer is considered a department head, and is  completely responsible for all aspects of production sound including the hiring of a boom operator and utility sound technician, planning the technical setup involving sound including both sound equipment and ancillary devices involved in syncing and time offsets, guessing and discussing sound-related problems with the rest of the crew, and ordering and preparing the sound equipment to be used on the set. The disadvantage with it is that if some of the mics go wrong you would have to halt some of the film production. The average salary of this is $49,000.

Regional,National and international

Regional,National and international Tv and Film Industry

This essay is going to inform you about the Regional,National and international Tv and Film industry.

Regional Tv is television that is broadcasted to a certain region, usually only highlighting events from that particular area, for e.g burton Tv news covers news from burton, informing the people of burton.
Television isn't always broadcasted on a Tv like burton Tv news and many other news channels are broadcasted on the web.
This differs from National channels and international channels such as Channel 4 and Fox News as they are broadcasted on Tv and they don't rely much funding as such but make profit from advertising.
Another difference between channels like Burton Tv News and Channel 4 is the quality of the material released, Burton Tv News does not have a big budget like Channel 4 news this means they are not very well known as they only broadcast to a small area. They are funded by local businesses advertised on their website 'Creative Wear'. Burton Tv News play a big part in getting the community involved this is different to national channel like Channel 4 as they report the News as a whole.
This also applies to the film industry as well for e.g the Quad in derby which allows people to watch many different kinds of movies not only high budget movies but also low budget as well which helps people who are trying to get into the industry this is a pro.

Midlands today is another type of regional Tv channel it is broadcasted on Tv in the midland area of england, it is similar to burton tv as it focuses on the specific region but it is on a far bigger scale because it is broadcasted on tv by the BBC who are an international corporation. Midlands is also different to Burton Tv news because it gets its funding from the tax payer instead of being funded by businesses .

National Tv companies broadcast to a nation as a whole, covering news from every corner and also broadcasting entertainment to the whole nation as well, this is different to international broadcasting as it focuses on a nation instead of a country as a whole. An example of a national tv company is the BBC, offering news and entertainment such as comedies, films and soaps that can be viewed anywhere in the nation. The BBC gain their funding from the tax payer and they have a lot of publicity because they are well known, this is different to channel 4 as they get their funding from advertising. A down side of the national industry is that they don't report on certain peoples areas so you may never get media coverage everywhere in the nation as they focus on the largely populated areas. Another con is people in other countries can't tune in to national television. A pro of national television is broadcasting a television program nationaly allows everyone to watch the show and raises the television ratings quicker. National television allows certain shows to be exclusively watched in a certain nation.

In the film industry Film4 plays a large role in the national broadcasting of films, Film4 is a Television channel available in the England. The channel broadcasts mainstream hollywood movies everyday nationally. Channels like Film4 make it possible for people in England to watch hollywood blockbusters this is a pro. Film4's Sister networks are E4, Channel 4 and many more these channels also broadcast movies nationally.

International television is television that is broadcasted to different countries this consists of entertainment and other types of television programming. An example of an international broadcasting corporation is FOX which is an American commercial broadcasting television network that is available internationally to many different countries. A pro of this is that people from a different country can watch shows that are made and broadcasted in America which makes the Network popular world wide.
Another pro is because of international success the Fox Network can afford to branch out to target different audiences all over the world. The Fox network is owned By Rupert Murdock who also own Fox  News Channel which is a cable and satellite Television new channel thats owned by Fox entertainment Group, available to 102 million homes in The USA and further to viewers internationally, broadcasting is primarily from its New York Studios. Rupert Murdock also owns 20th Century Fox which is part of the Fox Network, 20th century fox is one of the 6 major American film studios most popular film franchises include X-men, Die hard, Alien, Diary of a wimpy kid and many more. 20th Century fox is responsible for some of the best films without it the industry wouldn't be the same they play a big part. Another corporation that has contributed greatly to the industry is the Warner Bros Entertainment corporation which is owned by Barry Meyer and is responsible for films such as Rush hour, Blade, Austin Powers and many more, also Television shows like The mentalist and Alien in america. Many of the shows produced by Warner Bros can be watch  internationally , some shows are co produced by CBS.
